Spring is in the air
It won’t be long now. The grass will turn from brown to green, flowers will begin to show their color, and the winged gatherers will follow their senses to collect what they need to fill the hive with honey. But this is not a blog about beekeeping. It’s about the buzz that surrounds brands. Yes, this is yet another marketing blog.
Why bother? Aren’t there enough conversation agents, micro-persuaders, marketing sherpas and mathematicians of logic and emotion? Perhaps it’s pretentious to start another social media blog given that there are many sharp minds and deep thinkers already covering this space, but it seems that there’s always room for one more passenger on the bus and while we’re all going to the same destination, we’re all doing something when we get there.
BzzMatters covers news and expresses views on the social internet. Ultimately, I hope to contribute something to the conversation from my own perspective.
I’m not a marketing mystic. Marketing mechanic is probably far closer to the truth. I look at what is working and then figure out the mechanisms behind it. As Edward Teller once said to me (yes, the h-bomb guy) “if we give our best ideas to our competitors, they’ll innovative with them, but we’ll take their innovations and do something even greater.” That’s my challenge. Take these thoughts and do something great. I’ll be watching.

For the record, I slightly paraphrased Dr. Teller’s statement to me. I had asked him for his opinion on whether we should sell computer technology to post-perestroika Russia. While he didn’t trust the Russians, he did say we should sell our computers to them, for the reason stated. He was 81 at the time and possessed a fearsomely sharp mind.
